Her inspiring book Journey to a Fresh Start, "Releasing the Junk...Revealing the Jewels" shares her personal story of abuse, rape, and a life that seemed designed to limit her at every turn. With the help of family and faith she has overcome her early circumstances to live a life brimming with self confidence and possibility. She now uses her own experiences in the healing powers of acceptance, understanding and forgiveness to encourage other women to not be defined by their circumstances.

Janice is also a powerful inspirational and motivational speaker focusing on inspiring women who feel they are stalled in life by fear of the past to release their limited thinking. She uses her skills in speaking and leadership to spread awareness on the consequences of rape and abuse and to promote her foundation Fresh Start for Women. Founded in March 2004, Fresh Start for Women, Inc., is a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering self confidence and self-discovery, and to renewing the lives of women spiritually, physically and emotionally, through workshops, seminars, retreats, counseling and career assessment. Her husband, Minister Oscar Pettigrew, Jr, is an active partner not only in life, but in running the foundation. Besides wearing the awesome title of wife, she's also the mother of two sons, step-mom to two sons and two daughters as well as grandmother to 28.
