Improving Your Body Image Through Catholic Teaching, by John Acquaviva, PhD

How Theology of the Body And Other Church Writings Can Transform Your Life

Synopsis
Feel better about your body image today.

The “body image crisis” has never been greater, but this book gives great reason to hope! - Christopher West John Acquaviva has done a great service to the Church – Greg Popcak I have learned that the Church does have the answers to all of the struggles and issues that life throws at us—yes, even the issues of body image and general health. – Teresa Tomeo

The amazing material shared in this book will help you:

1. Understand of the real purpose of the human body.
2. Reconcile what you “should” look like with the way Jesus views you.
3. Become more accepting of the body God gave you.

For the first time, here’s a book that will teach you to accept and love your body using the best tool of all: God. Too many people suffer from a poor body image, especially catholic girls and catholic women who are continually denigrated in secular society. If you are looking for Catholic answers for your Catholic Family this is the book for you to help someone understand the impact of the overwhelmingly negative effect pop culture can have on the development of self esteem.

Improving Your Body Image addresses the common triggers of negative body image for both men and women, and uses the Catholic faith and John Paul II’s Theology of the Body to show practical ways that the Christian faith can help us understand the human body and correct our own body issues. You will enjoy this book since it is written in an easy-to-read, conversational style. It will be attractive to readers, men and women alike, from older teens to older adults, due to its style, brevity, and interesting examples and stories. Catholic author and EWTN radio/TV personality Teresa Tomeo has written the foreword while Christopher West, Greg Popcak, Lisa Hendey (CatholicMom.com) and Dr. Bill Theirfelder (president of Belmont Abbey) have endorsed it.

Author Interview with Kimberly A. Davison-Fujioka: Tutoring: Complete Home Business Guide

A Conversation with Kimberly A. Davison-Fujioka,
Author of "Tutoring: Complete Home Business Guide"

Featured Author, Kimberly A. Davison-Fujioka
"Tutoring: Complete Home Business Guide"

Why did you feel you had to write TUTORING: Complete Home Business Guide?
I wrote my non-fiction book because I had worked as a successful tutor for many years. The techniques and methods of making money that I used are all included in the book. I wrote it to share what I had been doing myself. I wanted other people to tutor as a way of making an income. I really enjoyed tutoring and met many lovely people over the years. Actually I met my husband while tutoring. He was a medical student at the University of Pittsburgh Medical School. I was teaching ESL at the University of Pittsburgh. In addition, I tutored part-time. I advertised in the Pitt News. He answered my ad and the rest is history. (My husband is from Japan.) While I cannot promise that you will find a husband through tutoring, you will certainly meet interesting people.

Where do you get your ideas?
My ideas come directly from my own experience. I taught for many years; and I have a master’s degree in teaching. I have been in the teaching and tutoring field for over 20 years. I have written and published many professional articles on teaching methods. During the years I taught, I developed teaching methods and published my positive results in professional journals. The teaching methods I developed for a classroom, I modified for individual and group tutoring sessions. I outline these applicable methods in the second part of the book. These are used by teachers all over the world. (When I was a teacher many teachers who had read my published articles, contacted me with the positive results they had by applying my teaching methods.) In this book, I explain very simply how to use the methods.

Do you ever experience writer’s block and how do you overcome it?
I don’t experience writer’s block. However I do have many conflicting obligations- family, friends, work and writing. It is difficult to balance it all. I make a plan and schedule that is doable and then I stick to it. I make a scheduled time to write. I outline my book then I write one section at a time. Each chapter has several sections. I have written 5 books. Each one has taken me about 8 to 10 months to write. When I write a book, I work on it daily for 4 to 10 hours. After it is totally written, I edit the book. I hire a proofreader to proof it before I send it to press. I always get a proof (post press) from the printer so I can look it over one last time. If there are errors in the proof, I correct them before I let it approve it for full printing. (Recently, printers are encouraging authors to proof online instead of waiting for the physical book in the mail. I never do that because examining the physical book is very different from an online view. I want to see what my readers will see before I approve it. I usually make changes, usually because something doesn’t look right on the page.)

What advice would you give to aspiring writers on the writing and publishing process?
I would say, “Write about what you know.” For example, if you write a novel then have the setting be a city you know well. If you write about something of which you know little, you will have to do research. If you write a mystery, have the main character be in a profession that you are familiar with. For example, if you are a computer programmer who knows a lot about software and programming then the murderer could be in that same profession. The idea is that the story and characters are more believable if your details are accurate. If you write about something you know, all the details will be there.

How do you market your work? Have you found some avenues to be more successful than others?
I have one piece of advice: Marketing yields better results when done from the micro level. In short, pinpoint your audience or reader then focus marketing efforts on that group. (In other words, don’t attempt to market to a broad audience because you cannot please everyone; and if you try you’ll lose that precious few that will really love your work.) First, you must discover your audience. (This is not as easy as it seems.) Locate groups of people through directories on the internet. For example, if you write a mystery that involves drugging horses at a race track, maybe horse lovers would be interested in your book. Look for groups in yahoo groups, google groups and on Facebook. Look at blogs for people who are interested in horses and market your book there. However, maybe another niche audience would like that type of book, for example, people interested in poisons or forensics. The key is to use niche marketing techniques to locate interested readers. Secondly, be willing to guest post on a blog. When you guest post, you can promote your book. Have a book trailer made and upload it to the internet. Put it on You Tube, Goodreads and as many places as you can. Fiverr.com is a great place to find low priced marketing services like book trailers and testimonials. If you sell your book on Amazon, you can put your book trailer on the Author’s page. You can also upload video testimonials on the author’s page. Of course you need to have a web page for your book where readers can read some of the content and then purchase it. On this website they can read about you. Make sure you have lots of photos. Check out my book website: www.tutoringasuccessfulbusiness.com My site is pretty basic but it provides an overview of the book and the graphics convey that tutoring is a job where you are helping people.

If your book was made into a movie, who do you picture playing each part?
I would want it to be a PBS documentary program on how entrepreneurs are taking control of their lives by becoming successfully self-employed. I would want to be chosen as one of those individuals who decided early on in her life, to be a “do it yourself” kind of person. The other entrepreneurs would be selected from many diverse fields. The tone of the documentary would be upbeat, stressing that finding employment is not about looking outward, trying to fit into someone else’s mold. But the future of employment would be based upon looking inward to recognize one’s talents and then starting a business that can benefit others.

Author Interview With Dr. Keshia L. Gaines: Why are Students Not Learning on the School Bus?

A conversation with Dr. Keshia L. Gaines,
Author of "Why Are Students Not Learning on the School Bus?"

Featured Author: Dr. Keshia L. Gaines
"Why are Students Not Learning on the School Bus?"

NEWS REPORTER: Dr. Gaines, why did you feel you had to write this book?

DR. GAINES: I wrote this book to express my ideas and new learning methods for students of various age groups. There is a need for alternative teaching and learning methods for the schools of today. Students are not meeting academic expectations in the classroom, so I decided to create some unique, out-of-the-classroom, methods for students to learn. This includes learning on the school bus, cafeteria, playgrounds, bathrooms, academic clothing, etc.

NEWS REPORTER: Where do you get your ideas?

DR. GAINES: Most of my ideas come from my experience with teaching various age groups in several different school districts. After being in the field of education and traveling to schools across America, I realized that students were learning mostly inside the classroom. I began creating unique methods for students to learn such as on the side of the classroom garbage can. Then, I expanded my Bus-stop 2 Bus-stop Learning Method to include many areas outside the classroom.

NEWS REPORTER: Did you ever experience writer’s block? How did you overcome it?

DR. GAINES: Well, yes and no. Often times I cannot just sit down and write information just for the sake of writing and meeting a deadline. I find it more productive to write down ideas and learning methods as I create them. This method allows me to have more genuine content than something that is written without a clear purpose.

NEWS REPORTER: What advice would you give to aspiring authors on the writing and publishing process?

DR. GAINES: I would encourage upcoming authors to be consistent with writing content to include in their books. They should get feedback from other authors and professionals. A calendar, goal sheet, writing utensil, and small notebook are all it takes to be successful. The rest depends on the individual’s talent and dedication. If someone writes a page a day, then they will have a 365 page book at the end of the year! As far as publishing is concerned, try to get “picked up” by a publishing company that will format and market your book to a worldwide audience in eBook and paperback versions.

NEWS REPORTER: How do you market your book? Have you found some avenues to be more successful than others?

DR. GAINES: Well, my publishing company markets my book online and through bookstores. Also, I advertise my book, clothing line, and other products through Bus-stop 2 Bus-stop, LLC (www.busstop2busstop.com), my company’s website. The best way to market your book is to travel and meet your fans in person. I have been to Los Angeles, New York City, Miami, St. Louis, etc. and have found that potential book buyers prefer to meet the author at an in-person autograph signing.

NEWS REPORTER: If your book was made into a movie, how would the story-line go?

DR. GAINES: I would love to collaborate with actor and producer Tyler Perry to write a script about his character, Madea, working at a high school as a substitute teacher (“Madea: #1 Substitute Teacher”). In the movie, I would play the young, successful school teacher who works in an unruly, low performing high school. When Madea, Tyler Perry’s character, starts substitute teaching, she restores order and cleans up the school. To make a long story short, Madea and my character implement the “learning on the school bus” and Bus-stop 2 Bus-stop learning method to increase the school’s test scores.

NEWS REPORTER: What is your goal for the future? What new products and events can your current fans look forward to for next year?

DR. GAINES: I plan to release a new book soon. It will most likely be a spin-off of my current book “Why are Students Not Learning on the School Bus?” Also, I have partnered with international clothing manufacturer, Zazzle Apparel, to announce the launch of my Bus-stop 2 Bus-stop Social Clothing Line (www.zazzle.com/busstop2busstop). This new clothing line is a unique sportswear/casual collection based off of my educational philosophy and inspired by my signature style. The clothing line features shirts, hats, tote bags, necklaces, jackets, and more with academic content and designs on them. Most of the designs feature the 1-12 multiplication facts and have a positive social meaning behind the particular math fact.

NEWS REPORTER: Dr. Gaines, we thank you for the interview and wish you much success with your company, book, and new clothing line.

"So…Why Are Students NOT Learning On The School Bus?

According to Dr. Keshia L. Gaines, students should learn from academic content on the school bus and other unique learning areas (the bus stop, cafeteria, playgrounds, bathrooms, academic clothing, etc.). The key to improving America’s educational system, Gaines believes, is to allow students to learn outside the classroom. Since students are not meeting academic expectations in the general classroom, it is important to consider all methods and areas for students to learn.

Dr. Gaines founded Bus-stop 2 Bus-stop, LLC and created the Bus-stop 2 Bus-stop™ learning method to help students increase academic achievement in fun, innovative ways. Th e idea behind the Bus-stop 2 Bus-stop™ learning method is that students will be exposed to academic content starting at the school bus stop. Students will continue to be exposed to academic content throughout their school hours until they get dropped off at that same bus stop at the end of the school day.

This book is designed for use in various education courses, educational leadership positions, and for general reading by anyone who is worried about the future of our children and educational systems. For entry-level students in education, this book provides insight and new ways to improve academic achievement in America. This book is also appropriate for various upper-level courses because of its research components, references, discussion questions, and journal activities . The purpose of this book is to explain the Bus-stop 2 Bus-stop™ learning method and to ultimately improve the current educational system in America. "
