Why did you feel you had to tell this story?
We have all had a relationship that ended abruptly or were in a situation where we felt we didn’t have power or control. These are stories about sexual and emotional empowerment. I wanted to tell stories that show women not just being sexual, but having power in their sexuality.
Where do you get your ideas?
Most of my ideas start out as a flash of emotion or a picture of one moment in my head and the story expands from that first spark.
Do you ever experience writer’s block and how do you overcome it?
I have often faced writers block and found three techniques that are helpful in overcoming it. First is to write something, anything, an e-mail, a product review, responses to Facebook posts, any writing will often lead to more writing. If that doesn’t work, then I will call a friend and do some brainstorming. Lastly I will do some reading since sometimes other peoples creative with spark my own.
What advice would you give to aspiring writers on the writing and publishing process?
There are times when people will give you bad advice or send you in the wrong direction. You have to sometimes step back and evaluate and then believe in yourself to do it differently even if it goes against “expert” advice. You are the only real expert on your own craft.
How do you market your work? Have you found some avenues to be more successful than others?
I am still learning more about the marketing aspects for my books. Currently I am building a following through Facebook, Twitter and on my own Blog as well as networking with other authors.
If your book was made into a movie, who do you picture playing each part?
Since there are four stories in the compilation book I will focus on the first one called ‘Club Desire’, in the story the name of the female protagonist is never revealed, but she is called Cat, which is her initials. I could see her played by Alyson Hannigan because though Alyson has often played very innocent characters, it is when she plays darker sexier roles that I can see her as Cat. For Dave I could see Robert Downey Jr. because he is sexy and can play a character that is both complex and superficial.
