Author Interview with J.A. Jackson: A Geek, An Angel Series

A Conversation with J.A. Jackson, Author of the "A Geek, An Angel Series"

Featured Author, J.A. Jackson
Author of "The Grand Hotel"

Why did you feel you had to tell this story?
I saw something and I was inspired. Or rather the experience left me with a story idea. First, I happen to walk past the Old Drake Hotel on Powell Street in San Francisco one Saturday night, while formal dressed couples were arriving. A few months later I attended a lush charity event in Danville and the novel idea became vivid, rich and real.

Where do you get your ideas?
My ideas come from my being a romantic at heart. I drew from my many experiences dating in the Bay Area to come up a series with lively plot ideas with a surreal twist which captures the fabulous crowd of loveable geeks as they encounter jealously, betrayal, outrageous behavior, heartbreak, and romance.

Do you ever experience writer’s block, if so, how do you deal with it?
From time to time I experience writers block and normally when I do it means I need to get out of the house and get away from my normal routine. When this happens my husband and I go for long car rides. We visit faraway places (in California). We especially love visiting small towns and taking drives on the coast. I find it always frees up the “what if” moments in my mind.

What advice would you offer to aspiring writers?
Persevere! Then never stop believing in yourself. Next I would say always listen to the voice within. It is your number one fan and keep pushing yourself to completion of your novel. Because you really are more capable than you know. Believe in yourself. And finally I would say remember NO is not fatal. Ignore the folks who say no because somebody will say yes.

How do you market your work? What avenues have you found to work best for your genre?
I use a few and to me they are effective. A few that come to mind are KINDLE MOJO, Authors Marketing Club, Book Flurries, Addicted to Books, pixelofink, and Galley Cat resources for book advertising. Whether to say the paid promos are better than the free I would have to say they are about equal for me right now. However, when my budget allows I do try to increase my paid adverting.

If your book was made into a movie, who do I picture playing each part?
That is very hard to say at this very moment because right now my mind is stuck on recently seeing "The Great Gatsby."  LOL! I am dreaming big right now. Real big! However, every writer should dream big.
