Author Interview with Lisa Renee Jones, Author of Being Me (Inside Out Trilogy)

A Conversation with Lisa Renee Jones, Author of "Being Me"

Featured Author, Lisa Renee Jones
Author of Being Me

ABB: Why did you feel you had to tell this story?
Jones: My fiance and I use to buy storage units (like on storage wars) and in one of the units we found a journal. My fiance started to read it one day while he was sick with the flu and he said “hey, you should write a story about someone finding a journal in a storage unit”. At the time, I didnt have time to write the story because of my other deadlines/obligations, but 3 years later, I wrote “If I Were You”, or rather I started it but didnt finish it. I finally finished it around the time "Fifty Shades" came out and it just took off.

ABB: Where do you get your ideas?
Jones: Ugg, the question authors hate haha. The ideas just come to me really, I know this sounds so simple, but its the basic truth. The story of “If I Were You” came from a personal experience, but for me, this is an odd occurrence.

ABB: Do you ever experience writer’s block and how do you overcome it?
Jones: Yes, all the time. This happens to me when something is wrong with my story, so no matter how hard I try to push myself through it, I always have to go back and find what's wrong and fix it.

ABB: What advice would you give to aspiring writers on the writing and publishing process?
Jones: NEVER STOP! No matter what agents/editors/readers tell you, if you want to be a writer - if that is truly whats in your heart to do - then do it. Stay the course no matter what. It can be brutal at times, so finding a support system or person is important (be it a husband/wife or friends or whatever).

ABB: How do you market your work? Have you found some avenues to be more successful than others?
Jones: Yes, some venues are far more successful than others and unfortunately sometimes the only way to find this out is through trial and error. The most expensive ones are NOT always the best ones for your book, it's important to find other authors that have used the avenue of choice and see how it worked for them. One thing to remember, any word put out there is good, so do not automatically dismiss anything.

ABB: If your book was made into a movie, who do you picture playing each part?
Jones: Well, I do not want to go into this too much, but I will say that my fans have very specific people in mind (just go to my Facebook page)
