The city of Cape Coral, Florida is a very quiet town. There usually is not much going on there other than little things usually happening. Our hero David and his lifetime female friend Cressida work at the Cape Coral Senior Citizen Complex. It is a nice, neat, tidy place where elders live with wide, open spaces and within complexes with a lot of room. There are volleyball courts, pools, yoga, palates and other classes. The pools indoor and out are wide but not too deep. There is a large building containing a dance and recreation center. There are a lot of TV’s here, all on different channels. The town and senior facility can be explained as nothing less than a golden ager (or as some would say – matriarch) utopia.

But, like here and everywhere on the planet now and again really crazy disasters would hit like a falling building, an attack from some oversized ocean creature, a tumbling communications tower and any manner of disasters that could result in mass death and destruction. If it were not for our embedded super hero (Safety Goggle) especially here in Cape Coral I’m afraid any sense of heaven on earth could simply not be possible.

The question you have to ask yourself is who or what is trying to destroy a person, place or our Cape Coral Garden of Eden? Secondly, what is going to happen to either resolve or contend with these strange and ever increasing seemingly targeted events trying to wreak havoc on an otherwise community most people only ever dream about?

Written by Shah Peerally, an immigration lawyer, the book depicts the events inside the US Immigration court and the Department of Homeland Security. The book also echoes the sentiment of many immigrants who went through the difficult process. Moreover, the book brings to light the hate and discrimination of immigrants. Although a work of fiction, the book is a good guide on a number of immigration issues while depicting the triumph of the American justice system.

The defunct Immigration and Naturalization Services were absorbed into one unit named the Department of Homeland Security. Under the Patriot Act and the Real ID Act, the immigrant community was forced to live in fear. Many were deported or disappeared. In this time of darkness, emerged a group of civil rights lawyers, guerrilla lawyers. These lawyers believed in the United States Constitution and were determined to fight for justice. Their faith and allegiance were often questioned, yet none of them gave up. Among this group was a less applauded group, which consisted of those faced with the actual challenge, the implementation of the immigration law and new challenges namely being considered guilty until proven innocent. These were the immigration lawyers. They fought for equal access to justice, which should never be decided by skin color, religion, or nationality. This is the story of some of those lawyers and their fight that helped others gain the courage to raise their voices against injustice.

When did you know that you wanted to be a serious writer?
I went back to school after my only child was school age and he decided I was no longer his best friend. I was Majoring in Early Childhood Education, and had to take a speech class as a requirement. One semester I entered a speech writing contest, and though my speech won second place for delivery, I knew my “writing” was better than the guy that came in ahead of me. I didn’t care since it was actually a “speech” and not a writing contest. I smiled and happily accepted the 2nd place certificate and the $100 prize. It was then that I knew I wanted to be a serious writer.

What do you find to be the best time to write?
I find the best time to write is when I'm up alone in the wee hours (between 1am and 4 or 5am). I'm more productive because I have fewer interruptions, however, my thoughts seem to be more fertile the first thing in the morning (7am - 10am), especially after my morning walk.

What is your writing process?
My writing process is simple: Write and don't stop writing until I've made myself and everyone around me CRAZY! When I'm in the middle of a project, I don't want to do anything; eat, sleep, or even groom myself (Yep! Things start to get pretty ripe!).

Where do you find inspiration as a writer?
Like most writers, I find inspiration in everything I see and hear. I love to people watch, animal watch, nature watch, and simply observe life in general. I especially love it when a subject speaks to me. That was the way it happened with the subject of my new book, “Experimenting With Murder”. I had been toying with an idea for years, but it wasn’t until I saw the television program "Mermaids: The New Evidence" that I decided to start the book. I ended up with a different story than the one I started writing. Even though there are a lot of elements with the murder, the secret experiments, and not to mention the mermaids, somehow, it all came together like it was supposed to.

What motivated you to become an indie author?
I was motivated to become an indie author because it seemed to be the next progressive stage in the online writing process. I started writing at a time when snail mail was the only method of submission. Back then, it was totally acceptable to display all the Rejection letters you received on your wall of goals. We wore them like a badge of courage because it meant that you were serious about your craft. But after awhile, rejection starts getting old. Indie authors get the opportunity to reach audiences that they may have never been able to reach while waiting around to be published by traditional means..

When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
When I'm not writing, I spend my time with books, literally. My son runs an online book business and I help him process, package and mail books out on a daily basis. Books are in my blood. I also enjoy reading and sharing my thoughts about the awesome titles I find when I’m looking for new writers. I try to help authors promote their books and obtain those "oh so hard to get" reviews.

Along the way I Bleed Cubbie Blue describes bizarre plays (such as Cal Neeman’s unlikely inside-the-park homerun when Bob Skinner forgot what inning it was), the tragic death of Ken Hubbs at age 22, the pitcher who claimed he pitched in a hypnotic trance, Jack Brickhouse’s call of an around-the-horn triple play (before it happened!), the unintentionally funny moments with Harry Caray in the broadcast booth, and the most memorable performances by guest conductors during the seventh-inning stretch.
