Author Interview with C.F. Lacy: "Searching for Liz"

A Conversation with C.F. Lacy
Author or "Searching for Liz"

What is the message behind your stories?
My stories “Searching for Liz” “New Beginnings” and the “Women’s Club” have a formulaic rhythm. I take my characters out of their comfort zone and reveal the secrets they’ve hidden from themselves. I make them come to terms with their desires and by the end of the story they have evolved into the person they always wanted to be.

From where do you get your ideas?
I get my ideas from (don’t tell anyone) overhearing conversations on the bus from strangers, and friends. A conversation that comes up often with girlfriends is cheating on your mate. There’s always a passionate “I could NEVER cheat on my husband!” And I always pose the question much to their annoyance. How do you really know? My characters explore the unexpected.

Do you ever experience writer's block, and how do you overcome it?
I refuse to say I get writer’s block because I think it’s an excuse. Now, do I block myself from writing, because I want to relax and have a glass of wine or watch my favorite TV show? Yeap…that happens.

What advice would you give to aspiring writers?
Write what YOU are passionate about, not what you feel people want to read. Be YOU!

How do you market your work?
When I wrote “The Women’s Club” I didn’t do anything. I figured if people were attracted to it in some way it would sell. It sold well and I could actually buy something with my first royalty check and not add any money to it. I was like wow, what if I had help, so I hired Virtually Everything by Kavalon.

If your book was made into a movie, who would play each role?
Hmmm if my book, “Searching for Liz” was a movie, I would cast Kristen Wiig as Elizabeth Manning and Sanaa Lathan as Naomi St. John. I think both women have a comedic talent and sex appeal to really pull it off.

Author Interview with Daniel Rafferty: "CounterPoint"

A Conversation with Daniel Rafferty,
Author of "CounterPoint"

Featured Author, Daniel Rafferty
"CounterPoint"

How would you describe your book in 20 words or less without using the blurb?
Ultimately, a book about the fundamental question of where humanity has come and is it actually worth saving?

Why do you feel you had to write CounterPoint?
This is actually quite easy to answer. I simply couldn’t find a book with the kind of storyline and setting I wanted, so decided to write it myself. I wanted to create an entire world which has angels running everything in the background because God has left. Angels are constantly struggling to cope with this massive responsibility while dealing with evil. What if they became tired and didn’t believe in humanity anymore? That’s the questions I want to explore in this three books.

Do you listen to music while writing?
Music is essential to my writing. The incomparable Whitney Houston and other music greats, including Elton John and Meatloaf, provide me with a lot of joy and energy when I’m writing – whether that be at home or in work. I must admit though, I do tailor my song selection to what I’m writing. For example, slow meaningful songs for those intense chapters and fast upbeat numbers for the quick, action packed scenes.

If your book was made into a movie, who would play each role?
Feel free to email me if you ever hear Counterpoint is getting made into a movie . I’ll be happy to discuss that then!

Do you ever experience writer's block, and how do you overcome it?
Quite frequently, and it can last for weeks. To overcome it, I simply forget about it all for a short time. Socialising, working, music, films – they’re all a great way to take a break and sometimes that’s what an author needs. There is no point writing for the sake of writing. If you don’t believe, or are not happy with what you’re writing, then it’s best to just stop until you get that creative urge to write again.

What are you reading at the moment?
“Jurassic Park” by Michael Creighton. This is without doubt the most entertaining, engrossing book I have read. As a child I adored the film by Spielberg and as an adult I now appreciate the book even more. Some books are timeless classics and this is certainly up there with the best of them. I have read this book many times, and will continue to do so in the future!

Synopsis
"CounterPoint"
By Daniel Rafferty

"Sooner or later, the human experiment will have to be evaluated"

As the world turns on its axis, all but a precious few are aware of the cosmic conflict that has continued since time immemorial between heaven and hell, angels and demons. Angels have been tasked with guarding and administering the Human Experiment since creation began. The Archangel Michael fears the experiment has failed due to the pollution of evil and seeks to salvage what he can. The day of reckoning is fast-approaching, and humanity’s blissful ignorance will soon be shattered as these duelling forces come to a head on the battlefield of planet Earth.

High-ranking angel Ariel is made responsible for “securing” the Bassett family, and as the conflict begins to unfold, amidst an unreal, unsettling global tempest that seems never to cease, the family is forced to go on the run.

With the Bassett family and their allies in constant peril, the conflict widens in scope as well as geographic distance, and they find themselves battling angels, demons and ancient creatures on all sides. Led by Mary, beloved Irish matriarch of the family, the Bassett’s steady themselves for the onslaught ahead- readying for a battle that will test their fortitude and the survival of the world itself

The Omission - Official Book Video Trailer

The Omission, by Kathy Golden

Synopsis:

The Omission story is approximately 12,000 words long. By some definitions it is considered a novelette, which usually has a word count between 7500-25000 words.

A teenage son finds out that his father is a homosexual. This news is so devastating and disturbing to Jared Sanford Brown, the main character, that he moves away from his family with the sole intent never to be associated with them again.

Readers first encounter Jared, at twenty, as he tries to tell his wife, Jean, the manner in which he learned that his father was gay. From there, the story unfolds, using both present action and flashback to reveal Jared’s ongoing determination to go on with the new life he has chosen for himself.

Four years after leaving home, the fact that he and his wife are about to have a child forces him to confront the broken family tie he has willfully refused to rebind. His most troubling questions are: Can he accept a man who is gay as his father? Does he even have to?

In 2012, adoption by same-sex parents is becoming more and more prevalent. Most of these parents are adopting infants who will grow up, fully aware that their parents are gay. Yet, despite this knowledge, it is possible that some of these children, like Jared, may still rebel against having gay parents. After all, children–today, yesterday and tomorrow–are ever rebelling against parents for one reason or another. And there is no reason to believe that finding out one’s parents are gay and exactly what that means won’t be added to the list of “things to rebel against.”

The Omission is purely fictional and based on fictional characters created by the author. It is a story that takes a look at dealing with gay parentage from the perspective of a teenager growing into a young adult and making his own choice, concerning who he will call “his family.”
