The Girl Who Would Speak for the Dead, by Paul Elwork

Synopsis:
The innocence of childhood,
the unknown of adulthood, and the search for forgiveness . . .

Emily Stewart is the girl who claims to stand between the living and the dead. During the quiet summer of 1925, she and her brother, Michael, are thirteen-year-old twins-privileged, precocious, wandering aimlessly around their family's estate. One day, Emily discovers that she can secretly crack her ankle in such a way that a sound appears to burst through the stillness of midair. Emily and Michael gather the neighborhood children to fool them with these "spirit knockings."

Soon, however, this game of contacting the dead creeps into a world of adults still reeling from World War I. When the twins find themselves dabbling in the uncertain territory of human grief and family secrets, everything spins wildly out of control.

Author Interview with Sara Furlong Burr: Enigma Black

Enigma Black, by Sara Furlong Burr

Synopsis:
When she was just seventeen, the course of Celaine Stevens' life was permanently altered with the murders of her father, mother, and brother in one of a series of mysterious and violent explosions occurring across the country. Struggling with picking up the pieces, she's haunted by the memory of that day and her promise of retribution against those responsible for her misery. But just as she seems to be getting her life back on track, an encounter with a mysterious stranger promises her the vengeance she desires, ultimately turning the former target into the assassin.

However, as she soon learns, all choices come with consequences. And the consequence of her choice threatens to destroy the very fabric of her being.

A conversation with Sara Furlong Burr

What time of day do you write?
It’s safe to say that I’m no morning person.  In fact, I’m pretty much worthless until the evening when my night owl genes kick in.  My productivity as far as writing is concerned usually begins at about nine at night, which is strangely when my husband and kids go to bed.  Coincidence, I think not.  After I begin writing, I’m usually awake typing away anywhere from midnight to two or three in the morning, depending on what I have going on the next day or how much of a rhythm I’m in.

If you were a superhero or villain, what would your power be?
This is a very fitting question considering Enigma Black is rife with both.  However, instead of the super strength and speed my characters possess, I’d probably have to go with the old standby and choose flight.  This would be especially interesting in my case as I’m deathly afraid of heights, ensuring either one of two things: Either I’d learn to suck it up and face my fear or plummet from the sky, resulting in the end of my short-lived superhero tenure.

What would you like your readers to know about this book or you in general?
Enigma Black is meant to be fun.  I write to entertain my readers without compromising their intelligence.  I like complicated, original plots, not cookie cutter, dime a dozen ones where the reader can guess the final outcome in the first ten pages. Being the first in a trilogy set in a dystopian environment, Enigma Black takes the reader into a world where fear dominates the weak and empowers the corrupt and vigilantes are the only hope for the restoration of democracy and peace.

If your book was made into a movie, who do you picture playing each part?
Oh, how I’ve dreamed of this happening, so much so that this is probably the easiest question to answer.  When I write, I envision the words replaying in my head as though I were watching a movie.  If, when I’m reading a scene, I can’t “watch” a fluid movie in my head, I know major edits are needed.

Enigma Black has quite a few characters in it, however, there are six major characters that immediately jump out of my mind (and of whom I’ve put the cart before the horse and cast).  For the main protagonist, Celaine Stevens, I envisioned a Natalie Portman type when I was writing the character.  For Chase Matthews, Josh Radnor (Ted from How I Met Your Mother) would be my first choice.  A Hugh Jackman or Gerard Butler type would be perfect for Blake Cohen, while Edward Norton, John Cusack and Robert Pattinson would be perfect for Victor, President Brooks and Ian Grant.  Hey, a person can dream.

What advice would you give to aspiring writers?
I think my biggest word of wisdom to any aspiring writer is not to give up.  Writing is difficult.  And this fact is only appreciated by fellow writers.  It takes copious amounts of time, energy, research, blood, sweat, and tears to do what we do with what little gratitude we get.  Not all projects will be a success.  You will experience numerous failures and rejections; it’s how you handle them that makes all the difference.  Learn from your mistakes, grow from them.  It may take a while, but with persistence and a positive attitude, your hard work will eventually pay off.

I’d like to also add that writing should be done out of love, not money.  If you’re writing strictly because you think you’re going to get rich, you’re doing it for all the wrong reasons.

Author Bio
Sara “Furlong” Burr resides in Michigan and is an Army wife, paralegal and mother to two beautiful children.  Her passion for reading turned into a love of writing and the release of her debut novel Enigma Black, the first novel in a planned trilogy.  Currently, she’s working on the sequel to Enigma Black, Vendetta Nation in conjunction with a romantic comedy.  When she’s not writing, Sara enjoys camping, gardening, watching movies, blogging and watching Hoarders.  She can be found on Twitter regularly and enjoys meeting other writers and avid readers.

Author Interview with Jonathan Lynch : The Gift

A Conversation with Jonathan Lynch, author of The Gift: What would you give to get everything you want?

When did you first start writing, and when did you finish your first book?

I first start writing when I was a teenager, mostly short stories but as I got older writing took a bit of a back seat but I kept on reading. I started my book The Gift in 2007 and completed it in 2012.

How did you choose the genre to write in?

I read everything horror when I was growing up and I loved, Stephen King, James Herbert, Richard Matheson and Richard Laymon so it was just a natural progression for me really.

Can you tell us about your challenges in getting your first book published?

The only challenges I came across were my own ones in getting the writing done it was the hardest thing I have ever done but definitely the most rewarding. The book was rejected by publishers and agents so I decided to self -publish on kindle and the sales and reviews have been great. Publishers and agents and the whole industry can be a cold place but stories written from the heart can make it a warmer place.

What project are you working on now?

I am halfway through writing a zombie novel based in Ireland. It’s the end of the world zombie apocalypse with a twist :D

What advice would you give to aspiring writers?

Don’t write for money and expectations of becoming a number one seller. The publishing world is a hard nut to crack. Write because you love to write and enjoy telling stories finishing a piece of work is a great achievement and anything that comes after that is a huge bonus. Also a lot of people always say write what you know. I don’t believe in that I believe in writing what you love, especially in fiction. Zombies aren’t real and if they were I would know nothing about them but I am enjoying writing about them.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
I was born in Haiti where I lived until I was seven years old when I came to America. At first, the challenges of speaking a new language, adjusting to a new culture and becoming accustomed to my new family in the states was overwhelming. After a few years, I began to adapt to this country and began to explore and admire what it had to offer me.

I had graduated from college and living a normal life when at the age of thirty years young I faced my biggest challenge. I was diagnosed with Stage III breast cancer and the outlook was rather dim. During this time I underwent chemotherapy and went back to college to earn my Master’s Degree in Children’s Literacy. After six years of fighting cancer, I’m happy to say that it is in full remission and I look forward to the challenges that lay ahead of me.

Currently, I reside in the city of Edison, New Jersey where I am a special education teacher. I enjoy the complications that this job offers and working with beautiful, loving children who face special obstacles when it comes to learning. I take great pride in what I do for a living as it brings great joy to see the smiles of my students as they overcome their own learning challenges each and every day. I wake up each morning looking forward to what my day brings in my profession and working with some of the most beautiful children in helping them overcome their learning disability so they can grow up and achieve their dreams.

God has been very good to me in my life. Everyday I surround myself with the warmth of God’s love, my family and my friends as I take pride in my profession, where I came from and how far I have come in my life’s journey. I feel both humbled and very blessed by my life so far and look forward to new challenges. I believe in expanding my horizons when it comes to the activities in my life beyond the work that I do. In my spare time I work on arts and crafts projects that give me a great deal of satisfaction. From creating stained glass, card and jewelry designing and writing children’s books I feel that I have barely touched on what this life has to offer so far.

I am a goal oriented person who feels that expanding my horizons means experiencing as much of the joy and opportunities that my life has to offer. I realized this when I was only 21 years old. At that time I created what is now called a “bucket list,” which is a list of things I want to accomplish while I walk on this Earth. Even at that young of an age, I understood how much one life can experience if I only set my sights on the goals that I wish to achieve.

I was very ambitious when I wrote down my bucket list and I’ve yet to fulfill all the promises I made to myself at that time. However, being blessed by the love that God brings along with the support of my family and friends I’m confident that I will complete my list and more.

The Omission - Official Book Video Trailer

The Omission, by Kathy Golden

Synopsis:

The Omission story is approximately 12,000 words long. By some definitions it is considered a novelette, which usually has a word count between 7500-25000 words.

A teenage son finds out that his father is a homosexual. This news is so devastating and disturbing to Jared Sanford Brown, the main character, that he moves away from his family with the sole intent never to be associated with them again.

Readers first encounter Jared, at twenty, as he tries to tell his wife, Jean, the manner in which he learned that his father was gay. From there, the story unfolds, using both present action and flashback to reveal Jared’s ongoing determination to go on with the new life he has chosen for himself.

Four years after leaving home, the fact that he and his wife are about to have a child forces him to confront the broken family tie he has willfully refused to rebind. His most troubling questions are: Can he accept a man who is gay as his father? Does he even have to?

In 2012, adoption by same-sex parents is becoming more and more prevalent. Most of these parents are adopting infants who will grow up, fully aware that their parents are gay. Yet, despite this knowledge, it is possible that some of these children, like Jared, may still rebel against having gay parents. After all, children–today, yesterday and tomorrow–are ever rebelling against parents for one reason or another. And there is no reason to believe that finding out one’s parents are gay and exactly what that means won’t be added to the list of “things to rebel against.”

The Omission is purely fictional and based on fictional characters created by the author. It is a story that takes a look at dealing with gay parentage from the perspective of a teenager growing into a young adult and making his own choice, concerning who he will call “his family.”

Author Interview with Denise Brienne: 10 Things He Thinks During Sex

10 Things He Thinks About During Sex: What Men Think About Other Than Sex (For His Pleasure Series), by Denise Brienne

Synopsis

Imagine this: You’re in bed with the man of your dreams. He’s doing all the naughty things that make your toes curl and your heart pound. The moment he slides inside you is something you have dreamed of for many months. But when you look up into those gorgeous eyes, he seems a little – distracted? Distant? His body is there but his mind is – elsewhere?

How can that be? Isn’t he just as into this amazing lovemaking as you are?

Here’s the truth: Yes, he’s into it. But he’s also thinking about something else!

The fact is that women are simply wired different than men when it comes to the emotional aspect of sex. You might be completely in the moment and entirely enamored with him. But what puts you “in the moment” is not the same as what HE considered “in the moment.” In fact, you might be very surprised by the wide variety of thoughts that flash through his head even as he is having awesome sex with you.

Thinking about different things during sex isn’t unusual. In fact, you might have done it yourself. Come on, admit it – there have been times when your mind wandered at the most inopportune moment. It doesn’t mean that he’s not into you, and it doesn’t mean that he isn’t enjoying the sex with you. But it does mean that you now have an opportunity!

An opportunity? You bet! When you understand what your man might be thinking during sex, you can help him actually enjoy sex more. So without further ado, let’s talk about what goes through his mind when he closes his eyes or gives you that blank look – and then we’ll talk about how you can use that to your advantage for a happier, healthier sexual relationship.

Author Interview Questions for Denise Brienne
10 Things He Thinks About During Sex: What Men Think About Other Than Sex (For His Pleasure Series)

Q. How did you choose the genre you write in?

A. I began writing my first book right after college. I decide that I wanted to make a living writing about something that I was passionate about. And that’s why I write my books about relationships, communication, love advice and other sensual subjects.

Q. Where do you get your ideas?

A. Most of my books are based on a combination of my real life experiences with a little bit of imagination. My stories and relationship guides pull ideas out of my personal journals that I have kept over my life time.

Q. Do you ever experience writer's block, and how do you overcome it?

A. I do get writers block from time to time. The best way that I have discovered to overcome it is to surround myself in the environments that my books take place. So I guess you could say that with my topics that sometimes I actually enjoy having writers block.

Q. What project(s) are you working on now?

A. I am currently working on a few different trilogies. I have a lot of advice about love and relationships that is too detailed to fit comfortably in a single book.

Q. Why did you feel you had to tell this story?

A. I have to tell my story because people need to realize love, relationships, communication and sex are all very important parts of life. Our culture teaches us to keep these topics hidden and I believe that just causes unnecessary discomfort. We need to be open with our needs and desires.

About the Author:
Denise Brienne has always had a passion for writing. Her love of the written word began when she was in college, when she discovered journaling as an outlet for the things running through her head and heart. The day she started writing about a tumultuous relationship in her journal was the day she learned just what powerful emotions the words could convey.

Today, Denise is a published author with many exciting works under her belt. Her books focus on helping women spice up their intimate relationships, solve problems in the bedroom and explore their sensual side.
Denise might be best known for the "101 Series" of books, in which you can always find what you're looking for to spice things up, no matter what stage your relationship is in.

When she's not penning sexy advice or erotic stories, Denise can be found camping, cooking, enjoying nature or discussing relationships over a good cup of French roast coffee.

With a seemingly endless supply of money, high-tech devices and hactavists that could take down a nation, she'll stop at nothing to take down the most powerful secret society in the world and rise as the head of a new nation. A new nation in which women rule the world! Hold on to your seatbelts, you're about to be taken to places you've never imagined.

Author Interview Questions for Julie Joyce, Author of Author Marketing Kit

1. Where do you get your ideas?
Most of the time I write about the things that I need to know about. There is something that I need to know. I research it. I learn about it. I write about it to share with others who need the same information.

2. What advice would you give to aspiring writers?
Just write. Don't let anyone discourage you from transferring your thoughts, ideas and imaginations into a written form so that they can be shared with others. You no longer need to hope that some stodgy publishing house will appreciate your vision. The most amazing benefit the internet has given to indie authors is a direct and unencumbered link to interested readers.

3. What would you like your readers to know about this book or you in general? I am passionate about helping indie authors to exploit all of the free and very affordable ways that they can promote their books. That's what Book Tour Radio is all about. I am an Indie Author myself, so I understand the passion, the journey and the frustrations. This book and the others that are "next steps" are all designed to shorten the learning curve for new authors.

4. Is there a message in your book that you want readers to grasp? I think it is most important for authors to realize that they are responsible for promoting their own book. While this seems tedious or overwhelming to many new authors, the process can be extremely fun and entertaining. Even authors on a shoestring budget can access hundreds of free opportunities to talk about and promote their book.

5. What advice would you give writers on the publishing process? The publishing process is easier now than it has ever been. Cost is no longer a factor. You can have a book on Amazon for free in a day. What you don't know about formatting you can learn on YouTube. What you aren't willing to learn you can outsource for a small fee. However, what all indie authors must always remember is that you need to care enough about your book to make sure that you not only have it properly proofread and edited but that you also provide it with a decent cover that represents the contents inside...because people really do judge a book by its cover.

Note: This is a FREE book for authors.
